Satellite phones use a satellite network to provide connectivity globally and are useful where you need to keep in touch but do not have coverage by other networks. Being satellite based, they are more expensive to both buy and to use than mobile phones but they work where mobile phones don’t.
Satellite phones will continue to work even when other terrestrial phone networks don’t due to power failure or natural disasters. They are an essential tool if you are travelling to remote areas and need to be able to keep in touch especially in emergencies.
Currently only Inmarsat and Iridium offer coverage throughout Botswana.
